RELATIONSHIPS, NOT RELIGION
You can get a religious experience anywhere, but we focus on relationships - a relationship with God, with each other and with people in need. The Journey is about people just like you reaching out and connecting with God so we can experience our best life. We desire to be a safe place for people to explore & experience God, no matter where they are in their spiritual journey. You can find out more with the links below:
It's our mission to help people take steps to experience their best life. We believe that is found living in relationships, first & foremost in a relationship with Jesus. We serve in our local communities and bring hope with many efforts from our Network teams - in Muskegon, Fruitport, Spring Lake, Norton Shores, Twin Lake, North Muskegon, Grand Haven. We also form partnerships around the world to help everyone experience their best life and share the love & hope of Jesus.
HISTORY
The Journey began with just a handful of people who had a common vision to do church differently. We began with 26 adults and launched The Journey Church in October 2003. We have continually grown and The Journey has become a great place to experience relationships, whether you just want to check God out or if you have been in a relationship with Him for years. The Journey has a wide variety of people. Over 60% of people who attend, rarely or never went to a church before coming to The Journey. So, if that represents you, know that you are not alone. In 2008, we expansed of our building to create more space for people to connect in relationships, not religion. In 2013 we launched our second Journey site (The Journey on M120) to expand our impact further into our lakeshore communities. In 2016 Northside Bible Church merged into The Journey Northside and we were given their building and 10 acres of land on Whitehall Road. In early 2017 we purchased property at 5660 Quarterline Road and moved there in the spring of 2019. God has written our history, and as we continue to seek Him, allowing Him to write our future, we believe our best is yet ahead!
WHAT WE BELIEVE
We believe that the Bible is inspired by God, is without error in its original writings, and that it gives us clear direction for faith and life. We also believe in one God. He is the Creator. And, is perfect and eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit (those three are often times called the Trinity).
We believe that Jesus is God in the flesh. That Jesus came to earth to save mankind. He died on a cross as a sacrifice for our sins, but he didn't stay dead. He rose again from the dead, went back to heaven, and is now alive. We believe that Jesus led a sinless life and intercedes on our behalf, and that He will return to earth, personally and visibly. We believe that God's Spirit works to convict us of sin, changes those who seek to follow Jesus, guides, instructs and empowers people to live relationally with and for God.
We believe that all people were created in God's image and are dearly loved and matter to God, but mankind fell into sin. We, therefore, are separated from God and in need of a Savior and to be made right with God. That only happens when we seek forgiveness for our sins, and embrace what Jesus did on the cross (taking our punishment) by receiving that gift of salvation that He offers. It is solely about His grace, and not about anything we can do to earn His favor. We believe that Jesus will come again someday to make everything right and for those who have received Him and His work on the cross, we will spend eternity with God.
We believe that the church, locally and universally, consists of all those who acknowledge Jesus as Savior and Lord. Its members are to work together in love and unity, intent on accomplishing the Church’s primary mission of glorifying God and bringing the good news of relationship with Jesus to the world around them.
